Melbourn lost 7-18

The 2nds put in a competitive showing against Cambridge 3rds, who were relegated from the Division above last season and are pushing for an immediate return to the second tier. But ultimately not quite competitive enough as Cambridge won 18-7.

The top of the order broke decisively the visitors way, Kate Bradshaw (1) being beaten 11-15, 7-15, 11-15 by Alex Holland and Richard Gouriet (2) going down 9-15, 4-15, 9-15 to Daniyal Jafree.

Below this there was nothing much to chose between the sides. Gareth Jones (5) claimed a string for Melbourn with an impressive -15, 15-12, 15-11, 15-13 over a handy player, Peter Connaughton. That was to be the only success of the night for the hosts though as Matt Walker (3) and Moises Estrelles Navarro (4) were both edged out 3-2, Matt going down 16-14, 6-15, 10-15, 15-5, 12-15 to Toby Harris and Moises losing 15-13, 14-16, 8-15, 15-8, 7-15 to Ben Knappett.

The 2nds are down to fifth in the Division 3 table after this reverse.
