Melbourn 1 vs St. Ivo 1 (12th November 2025)

Melbourn lost 9-16

The 1sts recent losing run continued as they were beaten 16-9 by St. Ivo 1sts in a match that turned on the middle strings.

Matt Sampson (1) won his encounter fairly comfortably, claiming an 11-8 , 11-7, 11-1 success against John Dewis, whilst string 5 went about as comprehensively to the visitors as Mark Oppen lost by a similar score to Nick Giles, 9-11 4-11, 6-11 in this one.

Everything else was nip and tuck, with ties breaking both ways: Vinod Duraikan (2) recovered from 0-2 down to claim a 6-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11- 7 win over James Powley, Kate Bradshaw (4) claimed a game against Harry Aldridge but only one as she lost 6-11, 6-11, 14-12, 5-11.

The pivotal string was, appropriately enough, the middle one Miles Jeanneret building a two games to one lead against Marco Pita, a player he had never previously taken a game off, but then seeing the fourth go against him on a tie-breaker. This was too much of a momentum shift for Jeanneret to reverse, the fifth also escaping him as St. Ivo won the string 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 11-13, 7-11 and the overall match by three strings to two.

As a bonus we have a video of Vinod converting match point against Powley.
